a poem a day for a year #280

once I parked under a billboard
in a purple sky desert
and danced
with you
with our hips
and all the hot blood in a body
later we had to shine the car lights
on us like a voyeur
our shadows telling secrets
I broke a heel and the cold
found a way down my side
like finger
later as the road stretched out before us
I memorized the way you looked in profile
and the smell of the night
just so years and years later
I would remember
how it felt to be free
